Meet our Staff:

Dan and Karen Paulus, Owners:

Dan and Karen bought the orchard in the summer of 1999.  Dan grew up on a farm as a child and studied agri-business in college.  After college, and prior to the purchase of the farm, he worked for Perdue Farms.  Karen is at the farm a lot too.  You will find her in the stand or giving a school tour in the fall.  Karen studied chemistry in college and has taught high school chemistry and also taught part-time at Messiah College for several years.

Nancy Scheffey, Pumpkin Seller Extraordinaire:

Nancy is Karen's mom.  Nancy has been working at the orchard for many years.  She works in September and October.  Her favorite thing to do at the farm is sell u-pick pumpkins.  She and her husband live in Delaware, so she drives a long way to come and help!  She stays with Dan and Karen while working at the farm.   We enjoy having her with us and it's really nice for our kids to see their Grandma so often.

Clayton Amey, Corn Cop:

This will be Clayton's third year with us.  He is also a student at Messiah College.  His older brother and sister also worked for us while they attended Messiah.  We love the Amey family!  Clayton is helping in the corn maze.

Lauren Bagian, Kitchen Assistant, Farm Stand Cashier, and Young Chef Camp Teacher:

Lauren is working this summer while home from college.  She likes to work in our ice cream stand the most, but sometimes works in the farm stand as well.

Marty Baim, Corn Maze Cashier:

Marty works full time as a mechanic and helps us on fall weekends as a corn maze cashier. He's been with us for four years and we are very lucky to have his help; he's been a great addition to our team.  We're thinking of naming the new snack shed by the maze "Marty's Mart" in honor of him!  :)

Rhett Baker, Farm Stand Assistant:

Rhett works in the farm stand keeping the shelves stocked with fresh produce.  This is Rhett's third year with us.  In the summer Rhett also helps with the blueberry patch and the play area for kids.

Emily Bichard, Kitchen Assistant:

Emily is a 9th grader at Northern.  She is a good friend of Matt (Dan and Karen's son).  She was voted "Most Outgoing" in the school year book...come on out and meet her and you'll see why.  She's got a great smile, sweet personality, and loves to talk to everyone.

Ally Bishop, Farm Stand Cashier:

Ally is a 9th grader at Northern.  She loves to run cross country and play lacrosse - which we find funny because we always thought you had to be big and tough for lacrosse and Ally is sweet, petite, and kind.  Not sure if she could pull off intimidating.  Ally loves to travel and has been to many states as well as many countries.  She's lived in Guam and Italy.  She's adventurous and hopes to continue traveling.

Susan Deardorff, Teacher:

Susan enjoys teaching all the wonderful children more about agriculture.  This is her third year helping us with our tours.  Karen depends on her a lot!

Kiely Eichelberger, Farm Stand Cashier:

This is Kiely's first year with us.

Chelsey Frey, Farm Stand Cashier:

Chelsey is a senior at Robert Morris University, outside of Pittsburgh, majoring in TV/Video Production.  She hopes to have a career in film or commercial advertising.  In her free time she likes to golf, swim, and ski.  She is her third summer working for us as a cashier in the farm stand.  Her favorite fruit is a Paulus Peach!  :)  She especially likes the doughnut peaches.

Gary Fuhrman, hmm...Gary's title is tough....Sprayer, Painter, Carpenter, Fruit Sorter, do everything kind of guy:

Gary helps us with spraying and all kinds of other jobs - you name it and he does it!  He's been a great help to Dan.  He and Dan built the new tube slide structure.  He also helped build the new apple bin play yard.  He is Marcie's husband and this is his third year with us.

Marcie Fuhrman, Senior Farm Stand Cashier:

Marcie works in the farm stand on weekdays and sometimes on weekends as well. This is her fourth year and she is truly a valuable employee.  She knows where to find things and how to get things done!  You hardly ever see her standing still.  She is cheerful and fun to be around.

Paula Griffie, Teacher:

Paula is one of Karen's friends who is helping with school tours a couple of days a week. She is a dental hygienist and comes out to help us on her days off.   She loves kids and is a lot of fun to be around.

Ty Griffie, Kitchen:

This is Ty's 2nd year with us.  He is always looking for a way to help out.  He's a great addition to our kitchen team.

Logan Hodges, Farm Stand Cashier:

Logan is a student at Red Land High School.  This is his second year with us and he is helping us in the farm stand.  Logan is one of the most polite and courteous young men you'll ever meet.

Marisa Hunt, Farm Stand Cashier:

Marisa will be starting her junior year in college.  Marisa was the first high school student we ever hired a number of years ago.  She has been with us many years and does a fantastic job!

Olivia Kimmel, Farm Stand Cashier:

Olivia is a student at Northern High School and works as a cashier in the farm stand.  This is her second year with us.  She is very bubbly and has a wonderful personality.  We think she smiles in her sleep...we've never seen her not smile!

Taylor-Lynn Kunkle, Farm Stand Cashier:

Taylor recently graduated from Northern High School and has returned for her fourth year with us.  She'll be with us until this fall when she enters the Coast Guard.  She helps with the farm stand, wholesale orders, and birthday parties.   We love to have her helping us!  She knows just about every aspect of the business...she's a great person to have around.

Lucy Micsky, Farm Stand Cashier:

Lucy works in the stand and kitchen on weekdays while her children are in school.  She has been a huge help getting the kitchen organized.  Lucy likes to cook more than anything so she's often trying something new in the kitchen.

Carla Miller, Teacher:

Carla started helping us with our school tours in 2010.  She loves kids and was a great help.  We hope she'll be teaching in 2011!  Carla is Gene's wife.

Gene Miller, Carpenter Extraordinaire...and a long list of other jobs similar to Gary's list!:

Gene and Gary both help Dan in all aspects of the farm.  Gene is an excellent carpenter, he helps us sort fruit, he fixes just about anything, he drives a tractor for school tours, and basicly helps us keep up with the farm!  He built all of the wooden benches around the farm and he built all of our shelving in the stand and in the sheds. He also added the nice windows to our new observational bee hive.

Megan Munkittrick, Kitchen Assistant and Farm Stand Cashier:

Megan is a student at Northern High School and is working in the kitchen making milkshakes and scooping ice cream.  Megan does a great job and is able to keep up with those long lines in the fall!  Megan is able to look at her day and find the most efficient and effective way to do her job.

Shaunna Nesmith, Farm Stand Cashier:

Shaunna has been with us for several years.  She just graduated from Red Land High School and will begin college this fall.  Shaunna is one of our best peach sorters!

Andy Reed, Farm Stand Cashier:

Andy started with us last year directing traffic on the busy October weekends.

Haley Robyak, Farm Stand Cashier:

This is Haley's first year with us.  She is a student at Northern and loves to play soccer.  She tells me her favorite fruit is fruit salad so an orchard is a great place for her to be!

Alexis Shovel, Farm Stand Cashier:

This is Alexis' first year with us.

Tim Sowers, Tractor Driver:

Tim is a huge, huge help on Saturdays.  He is our tractor driver for all of the fun wagon rides!  He's very social and loves to talk to all our guests.  We love that!

Taylor Stuckey, Farm Stand Cashier:

This is Taylor's first year with us.

Jerry Vasil, Kitchen Assistant and Teacher:

Jerry is retired from Penn Dot and works as a long term substitute teacher at Northern High School.  He is spending his summer with us by helping in the kitchen.  He's been a great addition!  He'll also be helping with school tours.

Megan Wieseman, Kitchen Assistant:

Megan started with us last fall.  She does an excellent job keeping up with the busy kitchen orders.  She can make a wrap, a milkshake, and a BBQ Sandwich all at the same time!  Karen and Megan's mom graduated high school together...it's hard to believe that many years have gone by that we're hiring our friends children!

Kim Young, Kitchen Manager:

Kim is the creative person at the farm.  She creates the beautiful displays in the farm stand.  She is our kitchen manager and teaches a number of our cooking classes.  She is a nurse and currently taking a break to help us at the farm.  She's been a great addition and we're glad she's joined our team!
